As much as I miss traveling and cannot wait to go on a trip soon… I day dream daily of the beach… however, I am not missing the smell of the airline food.  I haven’t partaken in sky food for many years, but I sure smell it when others do and most of it makes me gag…  what’s the deal with airline food?  Its not just airline food, its also the fast food they have in the terminals.  It really smells up the cabins and with the recirculating air, there is no escape.  I’m constantly trying to come up with new quick healthy and tasty recipes for people to take while traveling.  Its definitely one of my “things” I love to do.  I am a snacker, I don’t like big meals as I get quite bloated and go into a food coma quickly, I also have a lot of food allergies and sensitivities, so I have been bringing my own food everywhere I go for many many years, especially when I travel.

This recipe is a quick prep, and satisfies the palate for chips and crackers.  I always make my crackers and chips in my dehydrator, without flours and only vegetables, but I know a lot of people don’t have one.  Unfortunately I haven’t gotten my dehydrator recipe to work for the oven yet (I’ll keep trying though) for now, this one is fantastic and very filling as its high in protein.  It’s a bit of a cook time, I have played with it and they have all been fails. So the slow, longer cook time is the way to go to yield crispy cracker chips.  Use my basic recipe and then add any flavours your heart desires.  I’ll share my 4 favourites with you, but feel free to add whatever flavouring you’re in the mood for.

Protein Crisps

  • 2 Cups Almond Flour ( I like Bobs Red Mill)
  • 1/2 Cup Oat Flour
  • 1/2 Cup Ground Flax Seed
  • 1.5 Tsp Garlic Powder
  • 3 Tsp Sea Salt
  • 1 Tsp Onion Powder
  1. Preheat oven to 310F
  2. Mix all ingredients in a medium bowl, this is your base.
  3. I quarter this recipe and add my flavours to make 4 different crisps.
  4. Feel free to play around with your favourite seasonings.
  5. With the flax and almond, they are quite strong flavours on their own, so you need a good couple tsp per quarter batch, have a taste as you season it and add accordingly.

***Its easiest if you make the batch, then half it, then half it again ***


  • 2.5 Tsp Dried Dill
  • 1/2 Cup Water


  • 2 Tsp Onion Powder
  • 2 Tsp Herb and Garlic Seasoning
  • 1/2 Cup Water


  • 2 Tsp Taco Seasoning
  • 1/2 Cup Water


  • 1 Tsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1.5 Tsp Steak Spice Seasoning
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  1. Mix the water in last to the quarter batch.
  2. Spread on a parchment paper lined baking sheet to about 1/4 inch, or just under.
  3. Bake two sheets at a time at 310F for 15-18 minutes (ovens vary, you want a little golden brown)
  4. Flip crisps onto new parchment paper and peal off the used one.
  5. Score with a knife or pizza cutter.
  6. Bake for another 10-13 minutes.
  7. Let sit on pan for 5 minutes then transfer to wire cooling rack until cool.
  8. Enjoy.
  9. Store in an airtight jar for up to 1 week.

One thing I used to be embarrassed about was having to bring my own food everywhere I went, I have several issues with food as you can read in my other posts and story on my meet Jackie page.  But I love food and love making healthy food taste good, cause lets be honest, sometimes health food, tastes like “health” haha at least thats what I like to say.  So don’t be ashamed for taking food with you because you want to be healthier, or have some allergies or start a new you and healthier lifestyle.
