Is drinking a lot of water that important?

Quick answer… ABSOLUTELY

You have heard the general rule… “Drink have your body weight in ounces of water daily” which is what I encourage my clients to do, so that it is more catered to the individual as opposed to the “Drink 8 glasses daily”  but its a great place to start when you’re upping your water.  It can be quite the habit change for some.  I have heard it all… “I don’t like water” “I can only drink it if its cold” “I’m too busy to drink water” “I need flavour in my water”  and so on and so forth.

But really the culprit is habit.  There are now apps that you can get to remind you to take a drink, you can set an alarm in your phone for every two hours to drink a glass of water.  There is also some great water bottles that allow you to add a fruit to your water.

Do what you have to do to get in the water you need to.  Adding fruit to your water gives you the natural flavours without adding all those junky sugar and sugar substitutes that can wreak havoc on your body’s cells, lowering your immune system.

I had a client a few years ago that said he only drinks the water that is in his coffee.  I had then saw his hands, which were so cracked that they were bleeding in between his fingers, around his nails, and on top of his knuckles.  He then told me he is on medication for it.  I was surprised there was even a medication that could “rehydrate” the body.   I told him he is not only NOT drinking enough water, but that he is also dehydrating his body so much from the coffee itself (please remember coffee is super dehydrating and you need 2 cups of water per 1 cup of coffee just to balance it out)  that he is literally drying his body from the outside in!

Our bodies are made up of 75-80% water and our brains are 75% water alone!  We need to hydrate for our organs to function properly.

There is also other information out there, which encourages you to drink your full body weight in ounces of water daily.  This is what I do and have for many many years.  I drink 4-6 litres of pure water daily.  Depending if I have exercised, gone in my sauna, travelling to a tropical place, or am doing a cleanse.  I never drink less than 4 litres of water daily, I know my body needs a lot, so Its something I don’t falter on.

I want you to start slow if you’re not used to drinking much water… Start with 1 litre for 2 weeks, then drink 1.5 litres daily for 2 weeks, then drink 2 litres for 2 weeks, then stay at this amount for a few months, and see how you feel.  You should have a clearer mind, increased energy, decreased weight, improved sleep, removal of toxins, improved bowel movements, improved skin… just to name a few.

I want you to focus on increasing your water by 16 ounces from whatever amount you’re at right now for the next 2 weeks, and watch the benefits in your body.
