Are you worth it?

Are You Worth It? When I was a teenager, I was given the opportunity of being an international model.  An opportunity that literally fell in my lap.  I was meeting a friend at a local shopping mall, when a guy came up to me, gave me his card and told me to call this modelling agency.  In my 15 year old mind I thought “Yeah ok pervert.” but I took the card, put it in my pocketed went to meet my friend.  I didn’t mention it to her, but when I got home I gave it to my mother.  She…

Do You Love A Healthy Crispy Cookie?

Chocolate Chip Cookies. My. Favourite. I have been trying to come up with a healthier version of a crispy chocolate chip cookie for quite a long time. With many many fails… all got eaten, and still tasty, but mostly crumbly messes.  When baking vegan and gluten free, there are bound to be fails, there is nothing to stick the ingredients together without adding unhealthy ingredients or bananas or ground flax seeds or apple sauce, which all yield a cake like cookie, and I have plenty of those.  But I wanted that nice crisp crunchy bite, to the cookie. Its funny…

Have you experienced Trauma?

Trauma. Even that word makes me feel icky. Many people have experienced some trauma in their life, albeit to varying degrees.  Everyone has a story to tell.  It’s not a who had it worse kind of thing, trauma is trauma.  And you have to deal with it or it will eat you up for the rest of your life, affecting everything from friendships and romantic relationships you have, to how you parent, and even the relationship you have with yourself – (which is the most important by the way) I came to hear about Mel Robbins a while back, and…

Do You Love Quick Meals?

My Favourite Soup. One to the questions I get most often is “How do you have time to make healthy Vegan Suppers?” My answer is always, “My Crockpot” It is my best friend, on busy days its my go to. I make everything in it, from Chilis to Soups to lasagnas, its the one pot exclusive. I am a morning person, which means I do all my chores, all my workouts, cleaning, everything in the morning before work! Yup I’m an early riser and an early setter.  I still get my 8 hours sleep per night usually. So for that,…

Have an Attitude of Gratitude

A very dear friend of mine passed away recently.  She was the kindest most genuine soul you could ever meet. (I know a lot of people say that, but she truly was)  Our city newspaper even did a write up about her, she touched many many lives, by just being herself. She lived every day of her life in complete gratitude.  I had never witnessed anything like it before, she would wake up and be grateful for the rain or sun, it didn’t matter, because you couldn’t have flowers or plants or a garden without either.  She had the…

What is the most basic form of self care?

FOOD. Yup, food. Food is the most basic form of self care. Period. I have always had issues with food. From the time I was 13 years old and couldn’t stop eating from various fast food chains. To when I was 14 years old at a councillors office being asked to draw a self portrait, (I was deep in the grunge 90’s phase with baggy cut off jeans and oversized shirts, so I drew myself accordingly) my mother was then asked by the councillor “why do you think she drew herself like that?” my mother replied “maybe because her weight…

Lets get to work

Good morning, and Merry Christmas. I wanted to share a tip on goal setting before New Years.  I read a lot!  And attend as many self development and business seminars as my budget allows, as well as take many courses on business. And the one thing all the books and seminars have in common… They all tell you to set goals! Set daily goals, weekly goals, monthly goals, annual goals and 5 year and beyond goals. But all of that can get overwhelming when you’re just starting out. I have read and swear by Lindsay Teague Moreno and her book…

The Famous Green Smoothie

You have heard about them before, but may not realize the nutrition power they hold.   Green smoothies are becoming more and more popular among celebrities and social media posters alike. And I speak from experience when I tell you they are the most nutritional food that you can put in your body. At the time of this writing, my family and I have been drinking them daily for 11 years. We started when our son was 5 years old, yup he started drinking them at the age of 5 (he’s now 16) and still drinking them daily. (8 oz.…

You are enough!

Its funny how we essentially all feel the same way, but think that we are alone.   A very good friend of mine came with me to a weekend long self development seminar. And during one of the lunch breaks, we decided to go to a mall close by where there was a cute ‘leave a note box’ for others at a cafe. You would take a note that someone had written and leave a note for someone else to read. I’m assuming they were all positive sayings, as that was the intention of the note box. We each took…

Why Journaling can improve your mental health

I know you have heard it before, and I have said it before, Journal, everyone says to journal.  But have you tried it and experienced the benefits?   I used to “Journal” when I was young. Only back then we used to call it a “Diary” in which I still have my first one. I got it for Christmas 1991, and started it January 1st 1992. It has bears and a bunny on it, with a lock and key (I lost the key.)  Its funny how different life is now from when you’re 10-11 years old. LOL In 1992 I…
