My 10 Day Vipassana Experience

It was an incredible experience, it was enlightening, and the hardest thing I have ever done, by far the hardest thing I have ever done! Not even the meditating for 11.5 hours a day, or the not sleeping for more than 4 hours per night and of broken sleep for 11 days, or the fasting or the complete silence. What the hardest part for me was, was the lack of communication with my family every evening. I missed my husband so much, he’s my best friend and not being able to chat nightly about our day was excruciatingly hard.…

As you’re reading this, I am currently on day 1 of a 10 Day Vipassana Retreat.  If you have never heard of a Vipassana, it is a 10 day silent meditation retreat… key word… “Silent” thats right, completely taken away from any distractions and technology, no phones or electronics of any kind.  There is zero talking, no eye contact, and no gesturing, and absolutely zero communication with the outside world. You get to fully focus inward and on yourself.  Learning a specific meditation called Vipassana. You may be wondering why I would want to do this, well I first…

Quick tips for better sleep.

I used to suffer from mild insomnia when I was a teenager, it took me what felt like forever to fall asleep at night. But after I had my baby I had to learn to fall asleep fast, or I wouldn’t get much sleep between feedings. Since then I had done a bunch of research to see what causes insomnia. I found out that there are unfortunately several different factors, and even foods can be the cause. What we eat before bed and even what we eat that morning can have an effect on our sleeping. And in the…

The Best Vegan Lasagna Including Instant Pot Recipe

(Sorry for the picture, I’m not a great photographer yet)   Lasagna back in the day for me was meat, cheese and noodles… to me that was very unappetizing and lacking nutrients, not to mention the accompanying gut aches that would come after eating a serving. Nowadays you can find some pretty good vegan recipes online for lasagna that are full of veggies, but still most use vegan meats… while we use vegan meats as a treat here and there, they are definitely not a staple in our diet, because they are still a processed food. Vegetables provide…

Quick Spaghetti Squash Recipe

Up until recently, Spaghetti squash used to be my least favourite of all the squashes.  I hated the texture, ( tasted like El Dante noodles) the lack of flavour (which usually I don’t like a ton of flavour, but this was so bland) it was just all around bad. I had been cooking it all wrong when I used to try and force myself to eat them, and It had literally been years since I had eaten a spaghetti squash.  But I finally trusted my gut, and cooked it a little longer, added some flavour and more vegetables to…

Christmas Drama?

Christmas Drama? Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year.  I love the magic of it all.  From the fairy tales we tell our kids, like the Santa footprints made out of baby powder on the carpet by the Christmas tree, and the half eaten cookies left on the table in the morning, to the chocolate almond “reindeer poop” left outside by Rudolph, and of course that mischievous Elf on the shelf getting into so much trouble nightly. It can truly be a fun time. Unfortunately, not everyone has the picture perfect family life, that is depicted in…
