Be Kind To Yourself

This unfortunately is one of the hardest things to do, and why?  We need to love ourselves before we can love another.

If you have been through trauma, any trauma or abuse, it is extremely hard to love yourself.  I. Get. It.  I have struggled for years with this and still do.  I need to listen to positive music, books and or podcasts daily, every morning, just to keep my mind positive and fresh and focused on the day ahead.  I also have positive affirmations and words all over my home office, over 50 actually!  haha true story, they are written all over, cut from magazines, hand written, cards from friends, magnets, all just positive phrases spread all over the room.

One of my favourites is written by Author Christian D. Larson and its on a magnet.

Promise yourself to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. Look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. Think only of the best, work only for the best, and expect only the best. Forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. Give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. Live in the faith that the whole world is on your side so long as you are true to the best that is in you!


I had the absolute pleasure of being friends with an amazing lady who not only lived these words, but showed others how to as well. She was the kindest soul I had ever met, and am so happy I was able to call her my friend.  She has passed now, but whenever I think of her, all I see is gratitude and kindness.  She was not only kind to everyone she came into contact with, but most of herself.

We are not our past, we are not our trauma.  Period.  Just because others were cruel to us, doesn’t mean we don’t deserve kindness and happiness.  We must keep moving forward everyday and being kind to ourselves is step one.  I was guilty of harming myself when I was younger through cutting, smoking, and an eating disorder, among other things.  I felt no-one cared for me so why should I?  I have come a long way and continue to grow daily.  I am not my past, and neither are you.

My hope for you, is that you will write out this quote by Author Christian D. Larson and read it daily for 30 days.  Yes 30 days.  I would guarantee you will feel differently about yourself, your situation and others by the end of that time.  You will have a more positive outlook on life, be happier, more motivated, and ready to take on obstacles with a clearer mind.
