3 Simple Steps to Better Gut Health
Gut health plagues us all at one time or another and for some, unfortunately more often. We can have diarrhea, constipation, feel great, or even all of the above in one. Single. Day. Annoying.
But I’m happy to tell you that it doesn’t have to be complicated.
I would bet that within 30 days you’ll notice a difference in your digestion, by doing these three simple steps. Remember you have to pay attention, because unfortunately we tend to notice the things we don’t like, instead of the things we do like. So pay attention at the end of the month, to see if you’re, sleeping better, pooping better, have in increase in energy, or noticing better digestion.
Here are the three steps to better digestion.
1. Start taking a good probiotic first thing in the morning. I am a huge fan of ‘Garden of Life’ I use three different kinds of theirs,
‘Once Daily Women’,
and ‘Once Daily 30 billion (its orange)
and I will finish one bottle and then switch to a different bottle, getting in an abundance and different flora that is needed. My husband uses the ‘Mens once Daily’ (Blue) and my son uses the orange one that I use too.
More and more studies are coming out of the importance of gut flora and your health. And more and more studies show that we need to be getting in an abundance of probiotics at a time, up to 200 billion daily. I have been taking a probiotic supplement since I was 15 years old. And back then they were only measured in the millions, and now they are measured in billions. It just goes to show how important it truly is and how studies are showing that.
2. Drink 1/2 a Lemon squeezed in warm water first thing in the morning after your probiotic of course. This helps to alkalize the body, kick start the liver and digestion, and help promote healthy bowel movements. An all around plus if you ask me.
And yes I have heard dentists say its bad for your teeth. Well then drink it with a straw if you are worried about it. Don’t not drink it because you have heard negative things. Try it for yourself and see what happens. I have had several clients over the years tell me how much it has improved their digestion and bowel movements just by drinking this on an empty stomach. But make sure it is a real lemon and not the squeezable plastic containers, filled with lemon juice. There is nothing better than whole food itself.
3. Drink more water. I know you’ve heard it before and I have said it a million times to people as well, because it is a game changer! Our body’s are made up of about 70% water. Which mean it continually needs water to function optimally.
We were always told as kids when we were sick, to drink plenty of fluids, now we say it to our kids and have to remind ourselves sometimes. In a nut shell this helps the body to flush out toxins. So it’s super important to always be drinking plenty of water due to toxic exposure in our world today. I mean tests have found the average newborn has over 200 chemicals in their umbilical cord blood. WOAH that is crazy! But its true.
The minimum you should be drinking daily is half your body weight in ounces of water daily.
So 130 pounds = 65 oz of water daily. And this is just the bare minimum. There are experts that say you should drink your full body weight in ounces daily. 130 pounds = 130 oz water.
I definitely drink my full body weight in water daily, and have for many many years. But when we travel to hotter climates like Hawaii, or Florida, (I’m Canadian) I tend to drink an extra 2 litres of water per day, because I’m out in the sun most of the day. That would bring my total to 6 litres of water daily, minimum. Somedays I get to 7 litres. Yes I absolutely keep track because I have gotten headaches from not drinking enough water and they can turn into migraines which would then make me miss a beautiful day in the sun. And I don’t want that. So plenty of water it is.
Start drinking half your body weight in ounces daily and see how you feel. Or better yet, 2 litres of water daily, always round up. I have a large 2 liter water bottle that I carry around with me, this way I know how much I drink, yes I fill it up twice in the day. But start with one fill and go from there.
The key to better health is consistency, you must be consistent if you want to see results. Remember that saying, ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’ well your gut health isn’t going to change in a day either. But in 30 days you’ll notice a difference. Just keep up with these three things and notice at the end of the 30 days how you feel. Most people have experienced, sleeping better, pooping better and an increase of energy.
